Summer Worship Services 2014

During the summer months, informal Sunday services are offered on the first floor of the main church building — the coolest place in town, most summers. These are lay-led services, and they start at 10:00 am. (For the record, here are 2013 – 2012 – 2011 – 2010 – 2009 – 2008 – 2007 – 2006.)

Child care is not provided, but in the past people with small children have gotten together to arrange to swap care. Please if you want to work with other parents to arrange such a cooperative.

June 22	Laura Geoghegan-Kellner	Celebration!: Come celebrate the Summer Solstice with group meditation, and reflections on the beginning of the summer and the changes of the year.
June 29	Margaret Burdine, Jessica Engels, Sue Gleason	Poetry Sunday with Music: Bring a poem to share, original or not, or just come to listen.
July 6	No service: Fourth of July weekend.
July 13	Trish Garrigan and Sue Gleason	Mindfulness: Being mindful in your everyday life can bring simple pleasures and heighten awareness. We will discuss and practice various forms of mindfulness meditation: breathing, walking, eating, and listening.
July 20	Peg Lorenz	Death Café: At a death café people come together, hear a short introduction, and then divide into small groups to talk about death. There are no agendas, no speakers, just regular folks sharing their thoughts with each other in a safe environment. Here is a more in-depth description.
July 27	Pamela Worden and Julie Stein	Living Like a Lotus at Home in the Muddy Water: Discovering spiritual aspects of a yoga practice.
August 3	Betty Keddy and Joan Wheeler	AVP and Mental Health: Come and experience a mini-Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) workshop and find out the benefits realized by workshop participants.
August 10	Jack Wool	Multicultural and Diversity Experience Through Middle And High School Literature: Building cultural awareness, empathy, curiosity and tolerance.
August 17	Harriet Hornblower	Chinese Painting: The brush strokes, concepts, and philosophy behind free style. Materials will be there for those who would like to try, and works of past Chinese painters to see.
August 24	Tom Roney and Loretto Roney	A Pause to Appreciate and Respect: “In the night, and overhead a shovel of stars for keeps, the people march. ‘Where to? What next?” (Carl Sandburg). Join a pause to appreciate and respect the unimaginable scales, great and small, of our surroundings in space and time. Within the vastness we’ve already found such things as Love. Reflect or share a thought for our future. With music and poetry.
August 31	No service: Labor Day weekend.
September 7	Big church resumes: Don’t forget your water.
